Celeros Flow Technology injects new life into 40 yr outdated SAGD pump to increase heavy oil production for customer

Celeros Flow Technology has injected new life right into a heritage pump for a Canadian heavy oil restoration buyer, enabling them to increase manufacturing. The pump – a Mather & Platt BB5 – was more than forty years previous and had been subject to numerous post-installation alterations.
Heavy oil deposits are extraordinarily viscous and require the injection of high strain, high temperature steam to enhance fluidity and permit the oil to be pumped to the surface. In order to spice up extraction on this venture, the customer needed to increase water temperatures from 90° C to 140° C. However, there were considerations that the present pump might not have the ability to ship this requirement. Nozzle masses have been a selected concern. They turned to Celeros Flow Technology brand ClydeUnion Pumps, their most popular provider of some 20 years, for help.
Mather & Platt is one of a number of heritage pump manufacturers for which Celeros Flow Technology provides full lifecycle support1. Their aftermarket engineering group undertook a radical examination of the quadragenarian Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) boiler feed water pump used in the heavy oil extraction process. The investigation revealed that the pump had suffered numerous seal failures over time that had damaged the stuffing field and affected operational effectivity. There had also been no maintenance interventions for decades – however the pump had never truly failed.
Says Mike Golds, Global Upgrade and Rerate Programme Manager for ClydeUnion Pumps: “It is testament to the quality of the original pump that it had continued to function in such harsh conditions and with no common upkeep over such an extended time frame. More importantly, it gave us confidence that a thorough overhaul could achieve the desired improvement in performance, saving the customer the cost and misplaced production time that can be associated with sourcing and putting in a new unit.”
Celeros Flow Technology overhauled the SAGD pump and carried out a mechanical seal upgrade and Plan 23 seal flush to optimize pump efficiency. In addition, finite element analysis was undertaken to confirm that the nozzle hundreds would stand up to the specified temperature increase. As a result, the pump is now able to delivering steam at the higher temperatures required. The seal upgrades guarantee it meets the latest specs.
Concludes Mike Golds: “We are actually happy with the result of the SAGD pump improve. เกจไนโตรเจนsumo has not only achieved the specified production enhance for the client, but in addition offered a more sustainable and cost-effective solution than complete pump alternative. Using modern engineering and evaluation, we now have been in a place to give the existing pump a model new lease of life and ensure it’ll continue to perform properly for many more years.”
